Wellness

Review your unit 3 personal assessment of your psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. Reflect on these areas. How did you score yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 in unit 3? How do you score yourself now? Has the score changed? Why or why not?

As I review the unit 3 assessment I rate myself 8 in physical well-being. I would rate myself a 10 now because I have add two more days a week to my program. As for my spiritual well-being I rate myself 6 and I would say it is about the same. For my psychological well-being I rate myself a 7. I would now rate myself an 8 because I have add meditation to my daily routine.

Review the goals and activities you set for yourself in each area. Have you made progress toward the goals? Explain.

Looking at my goal I set for myself I have made a little process. What I need to do is just to make time for myself so I can accomplish my goals, which is a difficult thing for me to do.

Have you implemented the activities you chose for your well-being in each of the three areas? Explain.

I implemented one of the activities I needed to improve in. This activity was more stretching. I am now doing yoga 3 times a week with my weighting lifting program. I have found it is giving me a lot more flexible and I am not as sore after I workout.

Summarize your personal experience throughout this course. Have you developed improved well-being? What has been rewarding? What has been difficult? How will this experience improve your ability to assist others?

I do believe that this course has help me with my overall fitness level mind, body, and spirit.  During this course my high school football team was in pursue of its first state championship in 32 years and we also was going for our first undefeated team in 38 years, which we did it accomplish (great feeling). So at times in this course stress was high, time was difficult but I always enjoy coming to class it made me realize I needed to learn how to relax which it did. This class made realize the imports of complete wellbeing.

My Health Plan

Introduction:

It is very important for all health and wellness professional to have the ability to develop physiologically, spiritually, and physical plan to make sure they truly understand their patients needs and wants within their lives. I am convinced it is very important to practice what you preach. To be the best provider you can be for your patients, you need be able guide them through their life so each of them can reach integral health the most effective way they can. Being ability to learn how physiological fundamental works within the body will help to acknowledge the role of the mind in health and disease. Having the ability to develop spiritually we will be able to discover unknown ability to co-create with nature and the structure and function of our mind and body (Dacher, 2006). When you start development physical plan everything then will come into place.
Looking at what I need to develop, I would say spiritually. The one thing I want to say is that I do believe in God. There are many times I have a very difficult time connecting spiritually within myself. The one thing I tell myself is that I need to believe all of the time, not just now and then. I do believe having a spiritually mind will help keep the mind and body in shape. My goal in my life is to work with children on their health and wellness. I would do this by educated them on the benefits on fitness, proper nutrition, and the diseases that can be causes by poor fitness. By proper education we can limit children obese we have in the world today.
Assessment:
I am convinced that assessments are very important parts of someone life to determine what their health status is. According to Dacher (2006), without knowing which aspects of our life to work with we cannot effectively choose the right practice or efficiently progress toward integral health and healing. As I look at what we have done within this class I have the opportunity to assess my health in the following areas physiologically, spiritually, and physical. The question is where am I in these. I am going to assess those parts of my life in the following scale 1-5 (one being poor and 5 being very good) to see where my personal levels are.
Physiologically well-being score would be 3 out of 5. I believe I could work on this part of my health. I struggle with this because I want to changes things in the world. I have a lot of positive things happen within my life with my family, friends, and job that bring me to emotions I couldn’t describe. But there is a time when negative things happen within my life I wish I could explain. This is the part that truly bothers me. Overall I do enjoy my life even those there are difficult times.
Spiritually well-being score would be 3 out of 5. I believe that my having a strong spiritually belief can improve your quality of life. I am truly convinced that this can reduce stress within your life by just having faith and hope that will get through situations that comes into your life.
Physical well-being score would be 5 out of 5. I can say this because I still workout 6 out 7 days of the week.  My workout program is different everyday of the week with it lasting any where from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. I use to focus on heavy weighting early on but now it more on aerobic exercises. The one thing I have change that has truly improve health is what I am eating and how much. I believe taking in the right amount of calories is important part of physical well-being.

Goal Development:
Physiologically goal is to never be ok with what is going on. I believe I need to continue to strive for higher levels of physiologically well-being. The first thing is to increase my overall happiness within my family and to eliminate any negative parts of my life and replace them with positive parts. By having positive thoughts will give the mind the opportunity to strengthen.
Spiritually goal is to continue to have balance within my life. I am going to continue to researching the bible and having a better understanding the meaning of it. By doing this it will give me the peace I am looking for and help my family with this as well.
Physical goal is to continue improve my overall health, which will help my mind and body as well. As part of my physical goal I would like to add more yoga, stretching routine within my workout. I right now only do 2 days a week, so I would like to add 2 more days. By doing this it would give me the complete workout that I am looking for.
Practices for Personal Health:
Physiologically strategies: I believe their activities you can do to improve and implement within your life. I first want to strengthen my mind because with a strong mind you can accomplish a lot more. By having the proper mental training for you’re mind you can reduce a lot emotions that you may have. These emotions can be hate, fear, worry, and anger and you can replace them with positive emotions like love, patience, and happiness. The one strategy I would use would be meditation. I feel meditation can bring your mind to an area where you could limit all of those negative thoughts you may be having. I feel if you can meditate for at least 20 minutes a day it would bring you into a place where you are feeling good about yourself.
Spiritually strategies: The strategy I would do is meet with someone who as more knowledge on the spiritually belief. Having someone to guide you like a pastor/priest with this it will give you the knowledge that you are looking for, because this can be very confusing at times. I would met them at least once a week, once I felt comfortable I would go on my own but I would plan meeting with them at least once a month.
Physical strategies: I would do this my changing what I do on certain days in my program. By doing this it would make my program more interesting for me. If you kept the same routine everyday it would get boring and I might lose interest. I feel changing up every 3 months is the best thing I have done and well continue to do. The best strategy is to enjoy your workout program because if you don’t you will not continue with it.
Commitment:
The one way I would be ability to assess my progress within the next six months is making goals for myself. I would have short and long term goals for myself. Without goals most people do not complete things they have started. Once I understand all of my goals I would then use the proper techniques for physiologically, spiritually, and physical parts I am working on. I would then track my process through out the entire process by using some type of journal that I could record my results. I have found this is the best way to see if you are staying on track with your goals.

unit 8 Blog

Hi Everyone,

I just can’t believe it is already week eight; it’s gone by pretty fast. As I look at this exercise I wonder which two practices that I would use. I enjoy meditation so what would be one, and the other one I am not sure yet. After thinking about this I believe I would choose Loving Kindness because I believe that I enjoy bringing happiness not only to myself but to other people around me as well. As for meditation, I just enjoy it because it clears my mind and it brings what ever is going on into a clearer picture for me.

These two exercises that I have choose I can use in my everyday life. I can do them daily and they would ensure happiness around me. As for mental fitness both of these can give you the freedom a lot of people would be looking for in their life. This would be very important to me for balance within my life.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

Unit 7: Inner Health/Peace

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone has had a great week! As I sat there performing this exercise, which was easier than I thought it was going to be. I close my eyes to picture someone I saw a very familiar face. It was a person that I work with very close with. As this meditation went along I felt very comfortable with him. I could picture myself as him, because he is a loving-kindness individual. So when it came to assuming the form of him I picture myself very much like him.
I am convinced meditation is an outstanding way to clear your mind it will give you the psychological wellness that you are looking for. Having that ability will only give the complete health a person is looking for.

As for the saying” One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself", I truly believe that. I do believe it is very hard to help people if you don’t understanding where they are coming from.  By having the ability to help them with their issue, is an important part getting them to development a psychologically, physically, and spiritually health they are looking for.

Have a good week everyone!

Unit 6: Integral Exercise

Hi Everyone,

When I look at the source of meditation I do where are two different things I do. The first is when I sit in a room and clear my head and picture things that is going on or are going to happen. This truly puts my mind at ease. The next thing that clears my mind and body is working out. I have two different types of workouts I do. The first one is when I lift weights, and the next one is a cardio workout. I enjoy using the workout called “Insanity” this pushes your mind and body beyond your limit. As I look at both of these I am convinced that make my mind/body stronger enough at times I feel like I cannot go any further.

As I look at my integral assessment there are a few things I need to work on. Looking at my psychospiriyual quadrant I feel that my emotional life could use some improvement. There are times that I should be happy for things and I am not. I believe this comes from being from a large family. Believe or not growing up in a large family is not always fun.

I believe working on this area of my life will improve on my other parts of life. By improving on my emotion it will help make my biological, interpersonal, and worldly quadrant improve as well.

Everyone have a good week!

Subtle Mind

Doing this exercise I was much more relaxing than I was during the Loving Kindness exercise. When I was doing the Loving Kindness exercise I could not get into my mind or body into it I just bored. As for Subtle Mind exercise I enjoy the complete exercise. I felt that my body was relaxing with each breath that I took during this exercise and my I heart rate went down and my mind was calm so I could just concentrated on my breathing. I believe that my breathing calms every thought I had and made everything  relaxed.

I believe that spiritual wellness is very important to your overall health. It helps you to believe in things that can improve your beliefs, behaviors, and the way you think overall. Having an spiritual wellness that is strong it will help with your mental and physical wellness. This is why I believe that my mental and physical well is as strong as it is because of my spiritual wellness.

Loving Kindness

Listening to this I don’t think it was something that I would listen to again. I found it kind of boring and long. So it was not very beneficial for me to listen to. But there was one part I did enjoy and it made me think of calm things and that was the sound of the ocean. To me the ocean is a calm place to a little crazy and me at times, which I do like. Over all I just didn’t enjoy this. I don’t know if I would recommend this to other.

As for the mental workout I believe if you can visualizations on what going to happen will make your mind stronger. As a high school football coach I do this during the week by playing the game in my mind. I feel like it makes my mind stronger no matter what I am doing. The more you can do this type of mind training it will help out overall psychological health better.
